Chuck Radis

Following his internal medicine residency, Dr. Radis and his family moved to Peaks Island off the coast of Maine to fulfill a National Health Service Corps obligation. His first two books, Go by Boat, and Island Medicine capture the challenges of a medical practice on the Casco Bay islands, where x-rays and advanced laboratory testing were unavailable. On house-calls, he relied on his physical exam skills, judgement, and a tackle box of medications to manage his patients.

Dr. Radis eventually left his Peaks Island medical practice for a fellowship training in rheumatology at Pittsburgh’s Presbyterian University Hospital but returned to Peaks Island, where for more than three decades he has commuted year-round by boat to his mainland rheumatology practice. His latest book, The Mystery in the Room, takes the reader on a captivating journey into the world of diagnosing and managing patients with rare diseases.
