As to the kind of "All that David Copperfield crap" Dickensian backstory that Salinger’s Holden Caulfield dismissively refused to reveal, I was born in Grimsby, my mother's home town, but grew up in Norfolk, which is where the book is mainly set. But my family has Swedish roots and that country also features in the journey undertaken by my hero.
