Charles Douglas Hepler

I was born just before World War II and grew up in good times of economic prosperity, optimism, and social reform. I’ve had lots of different jobs. I was a casual farm laborer, golf caddy, dishwasher, a rod man on a survey crew. I was a soda jerk and life-guard. While I was in college I worked as a pharmacy clerk and water safety instructor.

I received the B.S. in Pharmacy from the University of Connecticut in 1960, the M..S. (with residency) in 1965, and the Ph.D. in 1973 from the University of Iowa. I was a faculty member in pharmacy at the University of Iowa, Medical College of Virginia, and The University of Florida. My field of study was medications use. I was a visiting professor at The University of Manchester (England) in 2000. My previous professional publications include "Preventing Medication Errors and Improving Drug Therapy Outcomes: A Management Systems Approach" with Richard Segal; four FIP conference proceedings on the subject of pharmaceutical care; and over 80 professional and research articles and book chapters. I retired in 2003. Now I enjoy teaching and creative writing.
