Chris George is passionate about diversity, inclusion, and equity for youth in education, arts, entertainment, and life experiences. She is the daughter of a proud, southern African American military soldier from Tennessee and strong, driven mother from Seoul Korea. She is the mother of two beautiful dancing daughters and a dancing, Tae Kwon Do studying, boy scout. Culture and arts have been ingrained in Chris since an early age and passed down to her children. Realizing that there were limited books with characters that looked like her children and grandchildren, she felt compelled to write stories that represent diversity and culture in children’s books. As a lover of the arts and dance mom for many years, she shares stories from her experiences with her children with the intention to create stories that bring more variety, joy, and magic into people’s lives.
Chris also works in public education providing school-based mental health services, social-emotional learning, and Youth Mental Health First Aid training. She understands the importance of identity, representation, and inclusivity as a basic human, psychological need of belongingness. Community is very important to Chris as she has dedicated many years to volunteerism and community service, as well as assisting others form non-profit organizations around the nation.
