Barbara Ryan

Professor Barbara Ryan is a consultant gastroenterologist at Tallaght University Hospital and the Hermitage Medical Clinic in Dublin, and a Clinical Professor of gastroenterology at Trinity College, Dublin, Ireland.

She has been working as a gastroenterologist for over 25 years and has worked in Germany, the Netherlands, the UK and Ireland. Barbara is more passionate than ever about treating and helping people who live with digestive conditions and she strongly believes in taking a holistic approach.

Barbara has clinical interests in inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS), hepatopancreatobiliary (HPB) disease and interventional endoscopy.

Barbara was National Specialty Director for higher specialist training in Gastroenterology in Ireland from 2012-2015 and is actively involved in teaching. She has a strong research pedigree and has published over 100 scientific articles on topics including pancreatic disease, Inflammatory bowel disease, endoscopy, colon cancer and coeliac disease, as well as several hundred abstracts at scientific meetings.

She is co-founder of the female-focused gut health education platform thegutexperts.com with her colleague Clinical Dietitian Elaine McGowan. Together, they have treated over 60,000 patients with every kind of digestive condition and nutritional requirement.
