Raquel grew up in Los Angeles, the daughter of Latine immigrant parents, who instilled in her a deep love of reading and learning. Her debut picture book, VIVA'S VOICE, is inspired by her own experience as a child going with her dad to the picket line.
Raquel's activism may have started at six years of age, but it has never waivered. She has spent over two decades advocating for and supporting equity in education, workers rights, environmental justice, and reproductive rights. She completed her undergraduate and graduate programs at UCLA and her doctorate in Education Leadership from the University of California, Davis. Raquel is the mother of two sons and lives with her husband in the San Francisco Bay Area.
