Diana C Pardee has been a creative entrepreneur, content writer, and amateur poet for decades. Her first novel took years to come to fruition, so she sometimes feels like the 'Grandma Moses' of authors. In spite of all the detours, it has arrived.
"On the Cusp" is set in one of her favorite towns in Southern California. Laguna Beach has all the makings for a good story with breathtaking scenery, an artsy vibe, diverse characters, and plenty of secrets to uncover. Poppy MacKenzie popped into her head years ago and insisted her stories be told. Fictional characters can plague writers that way.
Her reading inspirations began with "The Witch of Blackbird Pond" and later "Gone with the Wind". Both have main characters who are feisty and don't fit into their era or culture but overcome their challenges. Diana does love a mystery, and characters with secrets, with a seasoning of romantic tension to add some spice, so that's what she writes.
Diana never quite fit into any group or place, until she connected with other writers and readers. She considers herself an introverted empath but then prefers not to be labeled. Like most writers who aspire to be authors, unconventional fits the tribe, happy to explore outside their reality. Her books are full of those kinds of characters, too.
When she's not writing, reading or working on her wellness business, she loves gardening, road trips and far flung travel, theater and streaming series dramas. She has two grown children, and one precious granddaughter who makes her laugh. And without her writer tribe, this book never would have been completed. Diana is happily single, living in a strange town of active seniors not far from Laguna Beach and all the mayhem that Poppy gets sucked into.
