Fran Borin

Ghosts can tell us fascinating things, and Fran Borin wants to share them with kids everywhere--and that means everyone who is, or has ever been, a kid!

As a child growing up in eastern Kansas, Fran eagerly soaked up local lore about the turbulent, sometimes violent history of the area: Bleeding Kansas, the Border War, Quantrill’s Raid and more. While researching her first book, Orion O’Brien and the Ghost of Samuel Grayhawk, she was struck by how the paths of Native Americans intersected with those of fugitives from slavery. Quindaro, the legendary Underground Railroad site just minutes from her home, provided the perfect setting for Orion O’Brien and the Spirit of Quindaro. The third volume in the trilogy, Orion O’Brien and the Phantoms of Wakarusa, ties all the threads together to show readers how events of the mid-1800s shaped the future of the United States.

Fran lives with her husband in Johnson County, Kansas. Check out her website at orionkobrien.com, and find her at Fran Borin Author on Facebook and borinfran on Instagram.
