William R. Ware, Ph.D., is an emeritus professor in the Faculty of Science (chemistry) at Western University (formerly the University of Western Ontario). His Ph.D. is in the field of nuclear chemistry. He is a founding member of the Photochemistry Research Unit and served a term as director. His research interests involved the study of molecules after light absorption using nanosecond and pico-second laser pulses. He pioneered the development of time-resolved fluorescence spectroscopy, which has recently been employed to enhance the detection of circulating tumor cells in the blood. His research included an application to systems of biological interest, including micelles and vesicles. He also served on the faculty of the NATO Advanced Institute at St. Andrews, devoted to time-resolved fluorescence spectroscopy in biology and biochemistry. After retirement, he became editor of International Health News, a monthly newsletter, and from 2008 to 2021, writing all the content primarily based on peer-reviewed medical literature.
