Raised in the little town of Bangor Michigan. I graduated from Bangor High School in June1956. On the 25th of June I enlisted in the Marine Corps. During that time, I spent nearly 5 years of tours to the far East. In 1961, I was station at Guantanamo Cuba, when the Cuba Missile crisis occur.
In June of 1966, myself and other instructors were transferred to the reactivated 5th Marine Division. I was assigned to Charlie Battery, 13th Marines. n September of that year, we departed for service overseas. From October to December, we trained to be certified for combat. The unit landed In Viet Nam a week before Christmas. Assigned to the #rd Marine Division and sent into combat on the 24th of December. In January of 1967, I was transferred to a newly activated Battery.
I had two Viet Nam tours, losing my hearing during the second. A final time near Vietnam was during the final evacuation.
The remainder of my time was conducted as an acting First sergeant for a guard company on Guam. Finally retiring in 1980
