Robert Dutton (ASGFA)

As you can imagine, my career as a creative artist has been a rich and diverse one which reaps rewards for fellow artists, readers and for myself too.

In May 2021 'Search Press' released 'Drawing Dramatic Landscapes' the first in the publishers 'Innovative Artist' series and an honour to have my first with this highly respected international publisher too.

Since book launch 'Drawing dramatic Landscapes' has continued to impress audiences and readers alike. The reviews are great! I'm so proud of what we have achieved together to create such a superb and well received book for you. It's one that comes from the heart - it's me, the artist, working directly in the landscape (and the studio) creating exciting work for you because its landscape that excites me.

Why the book works

I initially trained as a Graphic Designer and Illustrator choosing a BA (Hons) course at Hull College of Art and Design above all others because of the diversity of the tutors and content of the course. I qualified in 1984 and immediately plunged into the commercial world of frenetic commercialism 'hitting the ground running' as they say.

With over 30 years experience working for many blue chip clients, household names and for tow of the largest financial consulting firms as an in-house Graphic Designer (KPMG and PwC - both 7 years a piece), it was time for a break - to do something different, something new. The commercial art scene had morphed and changed into something very different I initially trained for and was initially excited about too.

The demand for my work was on my side. Galleries were regularly selling my work and I was winning some decent awards for it. The courses I ran in my spare time (if I got any) were full. My articles for magazines were popular and I was even beginning to be known overseas. I took another plunge and became a full time Professional Fine Artist in September 2013 and left PwC.

A new lease of life!

Best decision I ever made was leaving! Other prestigious awards followed soon after again with regular sales to date. I'm no stranger to publishing, in fact on a regular basis my work and style and articles feature in 'The Artist' magazine for whom I have contributed articles for over 25 years inspiring readers. My work has also been featured in 'International Artist' magazine and featured in '100 Great seascape Artists' by the same publisher. Based on the quality of my expressive drawings I am honoured to have recently become an Associate Artist with The Society of Graphic Fine Art in London.

As a highly respected Associate Artist for Unison Colour (hand made pastels in Northumberland UK), UK Ambassador for ‘Nitram Charcoal’ (from Canada), Derwent Art materials (UK) - the brands keep me busy with regular online presence in film, at trade shows and more.

I regularly exhibit his paintings in many prestigious national art galleries to include the ‘The Mall Galleries’ in London with ‘The Pastel Society’, ‘Artworld’ Fine Art Trade Show in Frankfurt, and other prestigious Fine Art events. As a respected art tutor with a decent following, my art holidays throughout the UK for independent adult centres of learning have waiting lists.

Content within 'Drawing Dramatic Landscapes'

Multiple layers build up eye catching and intriguing depth within each painting and expressive drawing I create. This exciting book demonstrates, explains and encourages artists to 'get stuck in' have a go, be excited about mark making and drawing media and not to be inspired by the creative process - especially when used different media together.

Enjoy this inspirational and encouraging art book. It will be great to know what you think of it too!
