Electine Sifuna, named Monica Sifuna at birth, was born in the small village of Luyekhe, Bungoma Kenya where her ancestors settled after migrating from Uganda. What she experienced growing up here on top of her friend’s urge to share her life story is what has propelled her to put together this short story. She was the president of Eyvat enterprises in Kenya where she negotiated and earned big tenders to supply to UNHCR before migrating to the U.S with her family where she lives to date. She is a graduate of Ramapo College of New Jersey, worked for the ARC of Bergen & Passaic counties, later joined New York City HRA where she retired. She is the president and founder of Bidii Children Foundation: a nonprofit organization benefiting needy students in Kenya. In her effort to mentor these students in the village where she was raised, she looks back at her childhood and sees hope in the community once again as she urges them to borrow the leaf from community acclamations she was taught as a little girl growing up and rekindle hope for these students like it did for her.
