Lance grew up as a missionary kid in a very Evangelical family. His world was composed of two authoritarian regimes—one political and the other ontological. General Manuel Antonio Noriega Moreno was the Panamanian autocrat, and Jesus was the benevolent dictator in his home. These two authoritarian regimes soon found themselves at odds in the backwater jungles of the Darien resulting in a kidnapping and deportation.
Much of his teenage years were spent attending a bizarre litany of Youth group events that spanned the spectrum of the culture wars. CD burning parties where CDs were burned in barrels for Jesus. Forming prayer chains to encircle abortion clinics. Enduring the yearly embarrassment of “see you at the pole”. Forming an antimasturbation “accountability group” at the local Burger King.
His life took a darker turn with his introduction to the Alt-right, but he soon recovered from a YouTube psychosis and he has since moved to lampooning Christian nationalism in his book Youth Group.
