Marvin T. Miller

Marvin T. Miller has taught over 1,500 hours of Deafhood classes, which began during his term as president of the Indiana Association of the Deaf in January 2011. A dynamic and powerful presenter, Marvin currently teaches Deafhood 101 and 201 classes as well as Deafhood and Allies workshops all over the country. He holds a bachelor’s degree in Deaf studies, and a master’s degree in sign language education from Gallaudet University.

A founding member of the Deafhood Foundation, Marvin's prior accomplishments include launching several monthly newspapers of, for, and by the Deaf and signing community, including The Deaf Michigander and DeafNation; he later helped launch SIGNews with Communication Services for the Deaf. Marvin has also worked in media and video relay service and he has consulted with organizations on business development. He devotes time to thinking about how to create a better future for the Deaf and ASL community, particularly in light of existential threats to our world. This is more concerning given the high likelihood that Deaf and disabled people are typically lower on the priority list for essential, life-saving services in the face of disasters and upheavals. He considers such heavy topics necessary if we are to figure out how to live in balance with Earth and become better stewards of finite resources.

Marvin continues to live in his 2001 Fleetwood Discovery, traveling North America, and his four Deaf children visit him whenever possible.
