Martyn lives in active retirement in Pontypool, South East Wales. He enjoys leading services for churches in the area without minsiters. He and his wife, Fay, have been married since 1986. The have two grown up sons and a 12 year old ginger cat Mabel.
He was in full-time ministry for 30 years in London, the South of England and Wales. Bible teaching has been a particular emphasis in his ministry. He enjoys emphasising the Jewish content of Scripture, and has been actively involved in trying to highlight the danger of Anti-Semitism in historic Christian teaching.
Martyn and Fay walk a couple of miles each day. He is often found in local cafes reading. On the coffee side he chooses cortados and Turkish coffee whenever possible. His favourite authors include Amy-Jill Levine, Mark D Manos, the 13th century Persian poet Rumi, and Ben MacIntyre.
He listens to 1970’s Progressive Rock and Jazz Fusion, especially King Crimson. He plays electric piano and his favourite soccer team is Cardiff City. He watches music, cruise and aviation channels on YouTube.
Martyn and his wife love travelling and over the years have enjoyed holidays in Majorca, Lanzarote and Israel. They cruise whenever possible in particular around the Mediterranean.
In the evening their TV viewing includes NCIS, MasterChef, and travel shows. Mabel joins them for “family time” in front of the TV, sitting on the arm of the chair.
