J. Terry Johnson is a native of Springfield, Missouri. He is a graduate of Oklahoma Christian University (B.A., 1964) and Southern Methodist University (J.D., 1967). Married to Martha S. (Mitchell) Johnson, he currently lives in Horseshoe Bay, Texas.
Johnson enjoyed a thirty-two-year career in higher education administration. For twenty-one years, he served as president and chief executive officer of Oklahoma Christian University and an additional five years as its chancellor. In 2000, The Oklahoma Higher Education Hall of Fame inducted Johnson as an honoree, recognizing him for his academic accomplishments and for his entrepreneurial leadership in university administration.
Upon retiring to the Texas Hill Country, Johnson began his writing career and has enjoyed success in a variety of genres. He has written two children's books ("My Animal Friends" and "Omar and Cleo"), a daily devotional ("Be of Good Cheer"), three fictional novels ("Wounded Eagle," "Sudden Death at Bogey Bay," and "The Jaffa Cartel), a cookbook ("Two Parts Sunshine"), and a book of poetry ("Walk in the Light"). Among the notables who have penned forewords to Johnson's books are Nolan Ryan, Pat Boone, Byron Nelson, John Ashton, Whitey Herzog, John Ashcroft, Loren Roberts, Sherri Coale, Grant Boone, and Andrew K. Benton.
