Kristen Lopez is a pop culture essayist, critic, and editor whose articles have appeared at Variety, The Hollywood Reporter, MTV, TCM, and Roger Ebert. She was previously the Film Editor for TheWrap and the TV Editor for IndieWire. She is a two-time National Arts and Entertainment winner and was nominated for a SoCal Journalism Award by the LA Press Club.
Her first book, "But Have You Read the Book" debuted from TCM and Running Press in 2023 and her second book "Popcorn Disabilities: The Highs and Lows of Disabled Representation in the Movies," from Bloomsbury, was released in 2025. She is currently finishing up "Welcome Boils and Ghouls: The Complete Oral History of Tales From the Crypt" for Running Press for publication in 2027.
She is the creator of the classic film podcast, Ticklish Business and is the Editor-in-Chief of her own entertainment newsletter, The Film Maven. A California native, Kristen was raised in a small suburb near Sacramento and graduated with a Masters in English from CSU Sacramento.
