Joy Johnston is an award-winning author based in Atlanta who writes about family caregiving issues. Her first book, The Reluctant Caregiver, received a gold medal at the 2018 Independent Publisher Book Awards. She received the 2015 Rick Bragg Prize for Nonfiction from the Atlanta Writers Club. Her work has been published in Chicken Soup for the Soul and other anthologies. She writes about dementia and caregiving on her award-winning blog, The Memories Project.
Slow Dog is her first children's book. Slow Dog received honorable mention in the 2023 Purple Dragonfly Awards. The book was selected as a winner in the 2023 Speak Up Talk Radio Firebird Book Awards and named a finalist in the 17th Annual National Indie Excellence Awards, and the 2022 Indies Today Awards.
When she's not writing she's taking care of her senior dog Murphy and a pair of young tuxedo cats named Serena and Dorian, all adopted from local rescue groups.
