William C.Poppert,
Bill is a veteran energy expert with over three decades of experience. He has worked in the US and internationally in the operation, design, financing, and development of energy projects, programs, and businesses. Bill is enthusiastic and energetic. A lifelong entrepreneur, he is a practical and pragmatic problem-solver and leader.
Bill’s energy experience started with design engineering and construction supervision, including the oversight and operation of the first large-scale hotel solar system in the US. He also instructed on professional energy efficiency engineering in Tunisia 30 years ago for USAID. Bill built and headed a three-time national award-winning energy management program overseeing $50 million annual energy use in over 500 Carlson Companies Inc buildings. He has also financed renewable energy projects, built companies, and carried out mergers and acquisitions for a large multinational company.
His passion is reducing world energy poverty, which has led to his work over the last decade with several NGOs and UN agencies, including on-site work in Africa. Bill’s current ventures reflect his view that a complete energy plan approach is critical for long-term success.
Bill has a background in Design Engineering and an MBA from the University of Minnesota encompassing coursework from the London Business School. He has served on the University of Minnesota Alumni Council and founded the International Forum business lecture series. Bill has served on the Minnesota Chamber of Commerce’s Electric Rate Task Force, was a past chair of Environmental Initiative’s Board of Directors, and served as CARE Minnesota’s Fourth District Chair. He also served with UN energy development task forces.
He is a co-author of the Wiley international book “Modern Electricity Energy Systems -Engineering, Operations and Policy to address Human and Environments Needs”.
