Ruth Burrows

I have always loved drawing, painting and making, as a child I also loved entertaining and always took a lead part in the school play. My two main passions eventually came together when I studied Theatre Design at Nottingham Trent University.

After moving to the United Arab Emirates at the end of the 90’s I started to develop an interest in computers and made my first piece of digital art in Corel Draw around that time. I also started a long and interesting career in Event Design, designing seasonal decor for the mega malls of Dubai!

During this time, I was able to keep my self taught digital skills updated by working in Photoshop and SketchUp to produce visuals for the event industry. I also opened a small gallery in Abu Dhabi and started making art again.

I eventually realised that illustration was the way forward for me. It seemed to combine all my skills, learned over the years and also involved that sense of working to a narrative and story telling that I had enjoyed in the early days of studying Theatre Design.

I currently work full time as an illustrator from my open studio and art shop in Sleaford, Lincolnshire, where you are welcome to drop by and say hello!
