Susan Mills

Susan Mills is an award-winning author, illustrator, podcaster, and community advocate based in Lexington, Kentucky. She is the creator of the DinoSprout Educational Book Series, a collection of children’s books designed to help young readers explore emotions, friendship, self-acceptance, inclusion, and the many wonderful ways people can be different.

Inspired by her son and her own experiences within the autism community, Susan began creating stories that celebrate neurodivergent representation and childhood differences in a positive, approachable, and age-appropriate way. Through colorful characters, engaging storytelling, and meaningful conversations, the DinoSprout series encourages children to recognize their own strengths while learning to understand, appreciate, and support others.

Susan believes children’s books can be more than stories—they can be starting points for important conversations. Her books give parents, educators, counselors, and caregivers opportunities to talk with children about subjects that can sometimes be difficult to explain, including individuality, sensory differences, friendship, confidence, inclusion, empathy, and asking for help.

As an author and community advocate, Susan frequently visits schools, libraries, community organizations, and educational events to share her stories and connect with young readers. Her visits often include interactive discussions, literacy activities, and educational materials designed to encourage children to ask questions, express themselves, and celebrate what makes each person unique.

Beyond her work as an author, Susan channels much of her philanthropic focus into family inclusion, education, and healthcare-related causes. She works to promote accessible and welcoming educational spaces for local families, advocates for children with special needs in the foster care system, and helps raise awareness and funds for children and families who need additional support.

Susan also travels throughout the year to participate in philanthropy events, literary festivals, school programs, and community initiatives. Through her writing, advocacy, and outreach, she strives to create a world where every child feels seen, understood, included, and valued.

The DinoSprout Educational Book Series reflects that mission: helping children grow through stories, build understanding through conversation, and discover that being different is something to celebrate.
