I left school whilst still a child (though didn't know that at the time).

The best things I did, in order of doing them, were: working in a library then a children's theatre group, gaining my Licentiate Diploma with The Guildhall School of Music and Drama, teaching drama, gaining a university place and a degree, working as a counsellor, moving to the Channel Islands.

Working with Cranthorpe Millner to produce my debut novel Song of the Sea has been the pinnacle of my writing career to date.

Song of the Sea was conceived in Nova Scotia, Canada when I discovered Isle Madame and a harbour named Arichat. There I found cannon facing a small island, and a plaque that told how in 1776 the Channel Island fishermen who worked and lived there were plundered by American privateer John Paul Jones at the start of the American War of Independence.

As an author and Channel Islander sparks of interest soon flared. I was hooked. I remained excited by the potential of this adventure and later returned to the area to complete my research and soak up the atmosphere.

Song of the Sea tells how the sea links and dominates life, passion and loss as we follow Elise on her voyage of love, tragedy, success and self-discovery.
