David A. Lines

David Lines is Professor of Renaissance Philosophy and Intellectual History at the University of Warwick (United Kingdom), where he directs the Centre for the Study of the Renaissance. He has held fellowships from—among others—the Netherlands Organization of Scientific Research, the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation, Villa I Tatti (The Harvard University Center for Italian Renaissance Studies), and the Institute for Advanced Study at the University of Bologna. He has published widely on Renaissance humanism and scholasticism, including the reception of Aristotle’s ethical and scientific works, Latin and vernacular philosophy, the history of libraries, and learned institutions. As a follow-up to his most recent monograph with Harvard University Press (on arts and medicine at the University of Bologna, c. 1400-1750), he is preparing a two-volume edition of related documents. He lives in England and enjoys cooking, singing, running, and hiking in the mountains.
