Christopher Upham is a writer, filmmaker, photographer and actor living in Santa Fe, New Mexico.
Daktoum is his first novel and is based on his experiences as a medic in the Vietnam War.
Return to Dak To, Mr. Upham’s prizewinning documentary film about the long-term effects of combat, screened internationally at more than 20 film festivals and the National Gallery in Washington, D.C., and is currently in educational release with Collective Eye Films. Return to Dak To centers on Upham’s experiences traveling back to Vietnam with four Army comrades.
His film career began as a research and production consultant for Greg MacGillivray (To Fly, Behold Hawaii, Everest, 25 other IMAX films). Among his story consulting clients are playwright John O’Keefe (Shimmer), filmmakers Lynn Hershman-Leeson (The Memoirs of Elizabeth F.), Ellen Perry (Will, The Fall of Fujimori) and Taggart Siegel (Seed: An Untold Story) As an actor, Christopher Upham has appeared in over fifty films as well as a dozen professional stage roles.
Mr. Upham’s fiction story, Nothing To Crow About was anthologized in Veterans of War, Veterans of Peace edited by Maxine Hong Kingston. His photographs have appeared in the New York Times and USA Today, and his fine art photography work has been exhibited by the Jules Maeght Gallery, San Francisco.
On Staff for over twenty years at the Community of Writers Screenwriting program in Olympic Valley, California, Mr. Upham has also taught screenwriting at San Francisco State University, filmmaking at the San Francisco Film Society, and was Artist in Residence at MVLA Academy.
