Born in Prague, my parents left me in Zurich while they went to New York in 1940. I was taken to Lisbon, placed on a freighter at age 4, and traveled to New York by myself. U boats were patrolling the seas, but I knew nothing about them. My photo shows me the first night in NYC in January 1941.
I attended the University of Pennsylvania, majoring in English. I studied at the University of London during my junior year. That year's adventures I chronicled in my first novel, I Think I Went to London. I have written seven novels in all. One more is coming called Assisted Living. Married more than once, I have a daughter, Elisabeth who was born in France.
I live in Hillsborough, NC, with my wife and four whippets. I live for writing, but writing with imagination and writing well and carefully.
