Thomas Weatherspoon, athlete, businessman, poet, author, spiritual mentor and professional trainer has spent more than forty years shaping the futures of world-class athletes by challenging them to reach beyond their
pre-conceived potential. With a sound time tested philosophy and training regiment, Weatherspoon has touched thousands of lives athletically, mentally and spiritually.
Born in Chicago and raised in Brookfield, WI, Weatherspoon grew up in a family strong spiritually, academically and athletically. Mother Berta, a baptist minister, instilled an unwavering faith in God, while father Willie, ex-military, demanded a strong work ethic. The combination proved golden for this talented midwest family. Thomas was a four-sport athlete in high school all three years. He attended University of Wisconsin Stevens Point, where he was recently inducted into the Athletic Hall Of Fame. (Class of 2022) Weatherspoon was a six-time All-American and double National Champion in the long and triple jumps, while majoring in Psychology and minoring in Communications. After college he moved to California and joined the Athletes in Action Track Club, a Christian-based organization. It was during this time as a professional athlete that Thomas began working as a Performance Enhancement Specialist with other Professional and Collegiate athletes.
PEPA Sports Inc., Weatherspoon’s performance enhancement program for professional athletes, was the setting for the development of his unique training philosophy. In his work with world-class athletes, from Olympic medalists to NFL pros, Weatherspoon identified nineteen characteristics common to the success of the elite achievers. These attributes - 19 Principles of Transformation - became the basis for the distinctive and rigorous training program that has become his trademark, for which he was recognized in 2003 on the cover of the Wall Street Journal. Although his work was originally devoted to developing these attributes in his professional athletic clients, Weatherspoon soon recognized that the development of these principles was applicable to a larger audience that included actors, celebrities, music artist, business and world leaders. in fact anyone willing to create change in their lives was perfect for the program.
The success of PEPA Sports inspired the founding of Training Ground, the facility he owned in the East Bay in California, where he expanded his program to include youths and adults. Aspiring athletes, pro-hopefuls, professionals, celebrities and non-athletes alike - all sharing a commitment to physical and personal transformation - seek the specialized guidance and expertise Weatherspoon offers through his distinctive training program.
