Neeraj Kumar

Neeraj Kumar is one of the most decorated and distinguished officers of the Indian Police Service (batch of 1976). After an illustrious career of 37 years, during which he led, arguably, India's most remarkable investigations, Kumar superannuated from service in 2013 as Commissioner of Police, Delhi. Soon after retirement, Kumar wrote his first book- 'Dial D for Don', wherein he chronicled 11 police investigations that he led during his nine-year stint in the Central Bureau of Investigation. The cases included Kumar's conversations with India's most wanted terrorist Dawood Ibrahim, the arrest and deportation of the Bombay blast accused Memon family to India, the arrest of the first assassin of Punjab's former Chief Minister Sardar Beant Singh, the arrest of Kolkatta's American Centre attacker Aftab Ansari in Dubai, the nabbing of Gujarat's notorious don Abdul Latif and so on.

The book received an overwhelming response from critics and readers alike. The movie rights to the book were bought by India's celebrated filmmaker- Neeraj Pandey. The police officer-author followed up the literary success of his first book with another bestseller titled Khaki Files with accounts of nine other sensational cases that he had investigated in his career. Once again, Kumar's book flew off the shelves of bookstores and received rave reviews. Season 1 and Season 2 of the much-acclaimed Netflix series 'Delhi Crime' are based on two chapters of Khaki Files.

Post retirement, Neeraj Kumar served for three years as the head of the Anti-Corruption and Security Unit of the Board of Control for Cricket in India. His next book is based on his experiences of fighting corruption in cricket in that capacity.

Neeraj Kumar lives in New Delhi with his wife and children. He enjoys reading, writing, playing golf, and telling stories to his two grand-daughters Aishwarya and Dhvani.
