Kim Steinhardt is a former California state administrative law judge turned environmental writer and marine wildlife photographer who interprets the natural world for all ages and audiences. He has served as an adviser and photo contributor to National Geographic’s Explore My World series for children, and his work appears in other publications and media.
Kim is recognized as a “keen observer, a wonderful storyteller, and a remarkable photographer" for his work educating and inspiring future generations about ocean stewardship and wildlife conservation. He is co-author of The Edge: The Pressured Past and Precarious Future of California’s Coast. His latest book is a children's photo-story: Sabby the Sea Otter: A Pup's True Adventure and Triumph.
In addition to working on a new book examining the often-troubled relationship between humans and nature, titled The Edge of Extinction, he is also writing another children’s true story about cheetah cubs in the Serengeti. He teaches law courses emphasizing ocean advocacy and protection and has served as president of the board of directors of the Seymour Marine Discovery Center.
