Jason Bullock

Jason Bullock’s passion for music began early as a percussionist in fourth grade, which naturally led to beat-making as he grew older. In college, he pursued formal classes in music theory, building on a longstanding interest in understanding music’s structure. His formative love of hip-hop further shaped this path, evolving into a desire to share his knowledge with DJs worldwide following the realization that “Theory is the Equalizer.” When he and his brother began developing their instructional work, they found the notation system they needed did not exist. As the mastermind behind the notation system, Jason created it from the ground up. He studied scratch techniques in depth by analyzing tutorials and routines to accurately represent them on paper. After selecting techniques appropriate for an introductory book, he wrote 24 lessons and taught his brother, Dwayne Bullock (DjRoninTokyo), how to use the notation. Their collaboration over several years culminated in Turntable Method Book 1: A Guide to Scratching, an elementary method book for DJs.

Jason continues to develop educational resources for DJs through Scratching Made Easy, the platform he co-founded to teach DJ technique using music theory and standard notation. He also produces lessons on the Scratching Made Easy YouTube channel, offering clear, structured instruction for DJs at all levels. He remains focused on making the language of scratching more accessible to learners around the world.
