David Jakes

David Jakes is a career educator with a unique background in classroom teaching, school administration, technology, and design. In his current role as an educational designer, David has helped schools across the world reimagine the spaces where teaching and learning occur. This work is grounded by the 27 years he spent in school (15 years teaching science and 12 years as an administrator) which enable him to uniquely understand the conditions for advancing the experience that schools offer their students and community.

The Design Thinking Classroom reflects his unique career experiences and champions his belief that schools exist to launch the lives of children. He believes that a new classroom experience, based on a design thinking approach, can be a catalyst for realizing this purpose.

The book presents a blend of thought-provoking ideas related to teaching and learning through design as well as practical approaches that assist classroom educators in implementing those concepts in their practice. In addition to the book, David has designed a companion website that provides additional resources that support the journey to a design thinking classroom.

The book is meant to challenge educators to reimagine their role and their craft and create the conditions for learning that inspire all learners to reach their potential.
