Joseph Sapp

Joseph E. Sapp has spent more than three decades exploring one question: Why do people believe what they believe?

That question has taken him into courtrooms as a lawyer, onto stages as a magician, into private practice as a clinical hypnotist, and into thousands of conversations with people trying to solve difficult problems. Along the way, he has written extensively about psychology, persuasion, law, recovery, critical thinking, perception, and the strange ways the human mind can fool itself.

His books are written for curious people rather than specialists. Whether he's explaining legal strategy, exposing common thinking errors, exploring consciousness, or examining the science behind extraordinary experiences, his goal is always the same: make complex ideas understandable, practical, and engaging.

Joseph believes that skepticism and wonder belong together. The best questions deserve careful thinking, a healthy sense of humor, and the willingness to change your mind when the evidence changes.

He lives in Hawaiʻi, where he continues to write, teach, and occasionally remind people that the greatest illusions are often the ones we perform on ourselves.
