SUZANNE MUNRO

Suzanne Munro is a classical composer who also writes poetry.

Suzanne began composing from an early age, improvising and making up music to pictures, before learning to read music. She also enjoyed making up poems as a child.

MUSIC

She began “formal” piano lessons at the age of seven, taught by her mother for the first year. From 1986 -1990 she studied composition and piano at the London College of Music, and went on to further study composition with the composer Paul Patterson.

Suzanne composes extensively for the piano. Her other passion is writing for the voice, both solo and much choral music. She also writes chamber music and orchestral music.

“One of my joys is also improvisation”….. Suzanne has recordings of early improvisations, when a child, as she improvised music to pictures and made-up stories, and classical improvisation is still something she does extensively today, many of which inspire new compositions. She has also undertaken improvisations (up to several hours long) to raise funds for various charities, and some of her improvisations are recorded “on the spot” and feature on Spotify albums and on Youtube. She has also taught classical improvisation.

“What inspires me?” ... inspiration comes from from nature, human emotion, and improvising at the piano. Suzanne has also written much sacred music.

POETRY

Suzanne began writing poetry “seriously” in late teen years, and has continued to do so, taking inspiration once again from nature and human emotion. Books include 'Inspiration From Nature', dedicated to her Mother, 'Lockdown' (a documentation of that time in history written in poetry), 'Bees, In Poetry and Photographs' (written to raise funds for the Bumblebee Conservation Trust), 'On The Lighter Side' (a light, humorous look at life), with several other books in the pipeline.

More recently, Suzanne has combined her love of poetry writing with her music and photography to produce videos (Throughout the English Seasons being one such series of twelve) and October Sketches the most recent, all available on Youtube. Her poetry can also be found on Instagram.

TEACHING

She has also been teaching the piano for over thirty years, encouraging all pupils to compose, and together with pupils has also produced books of their pieces.
