Derek Tan

Derek Tan holds a BSc from the University of British Columbia where he majored in art history, looking at the visual communication of ideas, as well as biology, studying the diversity, ecology, and cultural use of plants. He is currently the Manager of Exhibitions for the Beaty Biodiversity Museum, where he helps communicate biodiversity research to the public through museum exhibits, videos, and digital experiences. He has worked as a photographer and illustrator, and his work can be seen in scientific journals, books, and other publications. He has been the lead designer on two field identification resources; the Guide to the Freshwater Fishes of British Columbia and Mushrooms Up: Edible and Poisonous Species of Coastal BC and the Pacific Northwest, and he is the illustrator for Pressed Plants: Making a Herbarium.
