Bob Lowe is a lifelong sports journalist who is publishing his first book—"Soccer: $tate in the States”--which takes a wide view of professional and pre-professional soccer in the United States. The book appeals to a broad range of fans, investors, and newbies to the sport.
"Soccer: $tate in the States” maps the landscape of the hundreds of soccer clubs playing in the USA, ranging from Major League Soccer to level four on the USA Soccer pyramid. The book offers a glimpse at women’s soccer and the arena leagues.
The book takes a look at the colorful characters who make up club soccer in the USA, including owners, players, coaches, and fans. The book examines the expansion fees, salaries for players, expenses and case studies for potential investors or communities.
Lowe spent more than 20 years as a college athletic communications professional with stops at Santa Ana (Ca.) College, Greensboro College, The Liberty League, Berry College and Guilford College. He served on the College Sports Communicators Directors (formerly CoSIDA) Board of Directors and earned three first-place regional writing honors from the organization. A journalism graduate of San Diego State University, Lowe helped found the North Carolina Collegiate Sports Information (NCCSIA) and was CoSIDA’s Technology Committee chairperson for eight years.
As for soccer, Lowe promoted a California Community College state championship team at SAC. Thereafter, he handled the publicity for numerous men’s and women’s playoff teams at Greensboro and Berry Colleges. On three occasions (2004, 2005, 2007), Lowe was the media coordinator for the NCAA Division III men’s and women’s soccer championships, held in Greensboro, N.C.
Prior to entering the sports information field, Lowe worked for nearly 10 years in the magazine publishing industry. From 1988 to 1995, he was a co-owner and publisher of Coast Compute Magazine, a regional monthly serving Orange County, Ca.
Lowe, a native of Whittier, Ca. lives in Greensboro with his wife, Kim. They have a young adult daughter, Brinley.
