Imagine, at the height of the Covid pandemic, waiting in an empty hospital for more than seven hours as your child undergoes a kidney transplant and the start of a new life. Meanwhile, your husband of 25 years is within hospital walls across the street, donating his kidney to your son. This is the scenario I faced in April of 2020 - hope and delight for my child and pure awe and concern for my husband. Managing the intensity of the experience was heavy and I held on for the ride!
