Jim Simons

Jim Simons graduated from the University of Texas law school in 1965. In its heyday, he worked for the Office of Economic Opportunity (OEO), the federal War on Poverty agency. He then opened a private practice in Austin, representing many activists of the New Left in Texas and beyond, in many parts of the U.S. In a Nebraska Federal Court in 1974, he represented a defendant in the uprising at Wounded Knee to a verdict of not guilty. As a trial lawyer in Texas for four decades, he handled many cases involving civil rights and civil liberties in a vibrant trial practice in the vibrant city of Austin, where he lives with his wife of over 50 years and their two beloved dogs.
