Bernice Gorham Cherry was born and raised in eastern North Carolina in the small town of Roxobel. She is one of four children born to Hermond and Mary Gorham to whom she credits for instilling in her the importance of prayer and a growing personal relationship with God. Upon graduation from high school she furthered her education at East Carolina University where she earned her Bachelor's and Master's degrees. Her professional background includes public health, education and insurance sales.
As indicated in one of her books, she is passionate about seeing people set free from bondages that keep them from being and doing all that God has called them to be and to do. Her purpose in writing is to see readers' lives changed by pointing them to the love, grace and mercy of Jesus Christ. Bernice is married to Stevie Cherry and they have three adult children.
