A native of Florida, Medea Isphording Bern grew up exploring Gulf Coast beaches and the coral reefs of the Keys. She attended college in Virginia and France, and is a graduate of the University of Florida College of Law. She is the author of San Francisco Jazz (2015), You Gotta See Your Mama Every Night (2020) and What the Raven Said (2023), with co-author Jane Galer. Her columns, essays and short stories have appeared in myriad publications. She recorded a short piece for KQED radio's Perspectives called "Plastered" in 2010. Medea lives in Northern California with her husband and cats, and not too far from her two sons.
