Lester D. Flake

Les Flake lives in Springville, Utah, with his wife of over 56 years, Marcia. They are retired and have three children, 7 grandchildren, and two great grandchildren. The author is Distinguished Professor Emeritus at South Dakota State University where he primarily taught ornithology, wildlife management, and waterfowl ecology. Les also conducted research with his graduate students on a variety of bird populations. There is a clear relationship between many of the author’s youthful memoirs and his eventual professional career as a biologist. Les remains an outdoor enthusiast with interests in birds, flyfishing, fly tying, gardening, hiking (and hunting) with his Brittany, and golfing with his wife Marcia. This is his second book of memoirs since retirement, the first being Finding Paradise in South Dakota: Gun Dogs, Pheasants, Prairie Grouse, and More. The author enjoys telling memories from his life, weaving in adventures, humor, romance, and even what has become mid 1900s history. (Contact information: cell:801-318-7793, ldflake@yahoo.com)
