Susan Webb Layne is a fourth-generation Texan who never expected her fifth-generation chidren to leave Fort Worth and make their homes in distant locations. Distant grandchildren presented a challenge for Susan, who grew up spending lots of time with grandparents near her home. An early vacation to visit her own granddaughter at the Eastern Shore in Maryland inspired Elinor's Glad-To-Be-Together Family, and rekindled Susan's lifelong love of writing. Susan and her husand Robert continue to live a few miles from her childhood home. Her children and grandchildren continue to be at the center of her life, in spite of geographic location.
Susan received bachelor's and master's degrees in English from TCU in Fort Worth, where she also worked for thirty-two years in academic services and study abroad.
Susan is a member of the Society of Children's Book Writers and Illustrators (SCBWI)
