Dr. Jacinth Howard

Jacinth Howard née Browne is a teacher, a researcher, and a writer. She holds a PhD in Literatures in English from the University of the West Indies, where she currently teaches. Her fiction is featured in BIM Magazine and others. In 2022, her story was longlisted for the Commonwealth Short Story Prize and another was shortlisted for the BCLF contest in 2023. She is the current writer-in-residence at Intersect ANU. Her critical work on speculative fiction can be found in publications such as JWIL and the Routledge Handbook of Cofuturisms. The Mother Island is her first single-authored book. The poetry collection, which earned second prize in the 23rd Frank Collymore Literary Endowment competition, is inspired by her experiences with motherhood in the Caribbean. She is a feature selection for the UNESCO Trancultura Poetry programme at the 40e Marché de la Poésie in 2023. She was born in St. Vincent and the Grenadines and lives in Barbados with her family.
