Judy Lev

Judy Lev, born in Cleveland, Ohio, lives in Haifa, Israel. Her essays, stories and poetry have appeared in leading American literary journals, magazines and anthologies since 1967. For twenty years she wrote a personal essay column for The Jerusalem Post. She has been teaching creative writing for thirty years, mentors writers and leads an annual writing workshop on Paros, Greece.

Our Names Do Not Appear, a memoir on silenced childhood grief, was published in 2023 by Lioness Books. Her second book, Bethlehem Road: stories of immigration and exile, will appear in October 2025 with She Writes Press/ Stable Books/ dist. Simon & Schuster.

Lev creates music to Emily Dickinson poems and lyrics for Bach minuets. She dances improv, cuts hair, and spends quality time with her five grandchildren. Her inner performer, stifled at 5, was released to great acclaim in her 70s. Now 80, she is grateful for every day.
