Basil Evangelidis

I am an author and researcher in the fields of the Philosophy of Science, Logic, Ethics and Philosophy of Technology. In 2012, I earned a Doctoral Degree in the Philosophy and History of Science and Technology at the University of Athens, Greece. Thereafter, I obtained a master’s in education at Liverpool John Moores University, and from 2017 to 2019, I studied at Leiden University, Philosophy of Science, with a presentation at the International Summer School Particle Physics at the Crossroads on 23-30 July 2018, in Wuppertal University. Furthermore, I have teaching experience in philosophy, in digital humanities / IT, database projects, conference and e-learning, for example, participation and lecture at the 20th Annual Independent Meeting of the Ancient Philosophy Society (Zoom, June 10-13, 2021) and lecture at the Congrès 2021 de la Société de Philosophie des Sciences [Université Mons (Belgique), 08.-10. September 2021].

My recent book “Reason, Causation and Compatibility with the Phenomena” strives to give answers to the philosophical problems of the interplay between ethics, philosophy of action, realism, explanation and experience. This book is a compilation of essays that recollect significant conceptions of challenging philosophical issues such as determinism and freedom, reason and appearance, power and knowledge. It discusses the progress made in epistemology and natural philosophy, especially the conceptual pathways from fate to free will and the steps taken from the ancient theory of atomism to the modern quantum theory and from empirical and mathematical methodology to analytic philosophy. Moreover, it provides possible gateways from modern deadlocks of theory either through approaches to consciousness or through historical critique of intellectual authorities.

My research agenda is also elucidated by my previous book, Landmarks in the History of Science: Great Scientific Discoveries from a Global Historical Perspective, published by Vernon Press in Delaware, USA: The eight chapters of the book refer to significant anthropological encounters in the history of science and philosophy. Namely, the Ancient Greek science and ethics (virtues, agency, means, objectives), the Chinese and Islamic philosophy and science, the age of the oceanic discoveries, the material science and culture (mines, magnetism and electricity), the computer generations, the evolving scientific conceptions of the universe, and, as a conclusion, the philosophy and history of science.
