JAN HILL

Jan Hill left school at age 15, her work history consisted of a sales attendant in Georges Department Store in Victoria Australia, she did a brief stint in a sewing factory, worked for 2 years as an administration assistant and computer operator (no screens in those days) before starting a family.

Jan as a mother worked from home doing bookkeeping for her husbands’ carpentry business. Most roles throughout her working life consisted of office work and accounting.

Jan's last position was in a Human Resources role where she stayed for 26 years until retirement in 2023.

Jan and her 4 brothers grew up in country Victoria, Australia, where the local landscape and wildlife consisted of farms, gold mines, rivers and old logging tracks in the mountains where there was an abundance of snakes, rabbits, birds, and other wildlife.

Jan, a mother of three has always loved nature and is an avid pet owner. Jan and her late husband moved from Victoria to Far North Queensland in the 1980’s. In the early 2000's they bought a 47-acre property on the Atherton Tablelands in Far North Queensland where they escaped frequently for a quiet weekend or extended break.

Sitting on the front veranda in the peaceful surroundings of forest watching how the birds and wild animals interacted with one another inspired the writing of the Lorikeet’s series.
