Nicola's fascination with Victorian servant life started in the 1970s, with the British TV programme 'Upstairs Downstairs'. It continued at university, focusing on Victorian writers and social history. During her recent reading, she came across the seemingly archetypal 'master and maid' story of Patrick and Mary Anne Chaworth-Musters in Nottinghamshire. She had to find out more and this led to the publication of her first book, 'Love, Duty & Sacrifice'.
When not reading and watching Victorian drama, she enjoys visiting National Trust properties - day-dreaming about the lives of the inhabitants. And more often than not, enjoying a cream tea!
