Linda Wang

Dr Linda (Yuqian) Wang works at the School of Education, Durham University (UK). She specialises in mathematics education, both as a researcher and as a teacher educator. Her work builds on significant professional experience teaching mathematics at secondary stage, first in Shanghai and subsequently in the UK. This experience was the initial inspiration for her long-standing research interest in curriculum design for both secondary and upper primary-level mathematics, and for her work on the East-West integration of pedagogies rooted in variation theory/mathematics mastery.

Among her main goals is to promote lesson planning as a focus for professional development among both maths teachers and pre-service teachers, through fostering cumulative knowledge and understanding and a particular focus on reasoning. She regularly ponders narratives in sequences of maths lessons while doing her gardening.
