Nick Petrov

Dr. Nikolay (Nick) Petrov is Assistant Professor of Religion in the Department of Philosophy and Religion at The University of North Carolina at Pembroke. He holds a Diploma in Theology from Martin Luther Kolleg in Austria, a Master of Divinity from Emory University, and a Ph.D. in Religious Studies from Drew University, where he specialized in American Religious History.

An interdisciplinary scholar, Dr. Petrov teaches a wide range of courses in Religion and Philosophy. His research and writing explore the intersections of religious history, world religions, philosophy, mythology, and culture, with particular interests in World Christianity, Byzantine history, and medieval Europe.

His publications include the college textbook Introduction to World Religions: The Essentials (Great River Learning, 2025), Robert College of Constantinople: Crossroads of Faith, Cultures and Empires, 1863–1913 (Lexington Books, 2023), and the book chapter "Post-Apocalyptic Mosaic: The Road and the Image of the Child as an Eschatological Symbol of Hope" in The Child in Post-Apocalyptic Cinema, Television, and Literature (Lexington Books, 2023).

His debut novel, The Blood of Tangra, is a historical epic fantasy that blends meticulously researched history with Slavic folklore, Bulgar legend, Byzantine intrigue, and ancient myth, bringing the forgotten world of the early ninth century vividly to life.

When he is not teaching or writing, Dr. Petrov enjoys traveling, exploring medieval sites, and leading study abroad programs across Europe, where history, literature, and faith come alive for his students.
