Fra was born in 1950’s London and grew up in England, Spain, the US and Wales. She spent much of her time from the mid-1970s to the mid-1980s living and working in different parts of Africa. She also lived and worked in Mumbai, India, with her family. She now lives between London and a farm on the River Elbe. Always an avid letter and notebook writer, this is her first novel, born out of the need to tell the story and honed by evening creative writing workshops in London. It is based on a true story from Ethiopia. It carries universal experiences of love, loss and trauma as well as the joyous moments we all treasure in life. While it is a story of individual experiences it is pertinent to the overwhelming themes of today, the impact of climate change, famine in East Africa and conflict and war in different, and sometimes forgotten, parts of the world, and the incredible bond between friends, neighbours and family, underpinning the will to survive.
