Auriol Bishop

On the outside, Auriol Bishop looks like a proper grown-up author-type person. But inside she still feels like the 8-year-old girl she used to be. The one who dreamed of being a tomboy and whose favourite thing in all the world was reading books and climbing trees. Ideally, both at the same time.

Books are still one of her most favourite things, and she has been lucky enough to work in publishing — where her job in marketing meant she was paid to read great books and say nice things about them. What a dream!

Sadly, it’s been a while since she last reached a treetop, but she still fills her pockets with daisies and conkers whenever she gets the chance.

Auriol grew up in the English countryside, and now she lives in the leafy suburb of Greenwich, London, with her husband and daughter and a naughty saluki named Clay (a Saluki is a bit like a golden greyhound, with very long fluffy ears and tail). She sees lots of friendly birds in the local park every day, but has yet to meet a bear.

Also author of two beautiful non-fiction books about the natural wonders of Christmas (Christmas is Coming and An Anthology of Christmas), The Bear Who Loved the Moon is her first fiction book for children.
