Dan Carney

Danny L. Carney was born August 23, 1950 in Ft. Scott, Kansas. He was raised on a farm near Fulton, Kansas and graduated in 1969 from Prescott High School in Prescott, Kansas. He then worked several years as a carpenter's helper. Working on the La Cygne Power Plant in La Cygne, Kansas is one of the jobs he admiringly talks about. Dan suffered from several health issues including Rheumatic Fever as a child, so it was no wonder his mother was against him joining the Armed Forces. Dan joined the Navy in November 1974 and was a Deck Seaman and an Air Sea Pilot Rescue Swimmer until February 1978. After the Navy he did various other jobs including working for a rancher in Oklahoma and joined a caravan cutting wheat in Oklahoma, Kansas, Nebraska, Colorado, Wyoming, South Dakota and North Dakota. He then worked long hours at the Gasohol Plant in Hydro, Oklahoma.

In 1983 he returned to Harrisonville, Missouri to be near his parents after his oldest sister passed away from Leukemia and got a job repairing lawn mowers. Around this time he met his second wife and started working as a machinist until he started his own business, Carney's Car Cleaning, in which he detailed cars for over ten years. During this time he took his skills as an artist to the next level painting wildlife and western art and joined the Harrisonville Fine Arts Association. While working in maintenance at a Walmart Distribution Center, Dan and his wife moved from Harrisonville to a building on twenty acres near Osceola, Missouri that could accommodate both their dreams. The building was big enough for a business with an apartment in the back. Together they owned and operated Brenda's QUILT STOP & More for over sixteen years and Dan operated the long arm quilting machine and quilted nearly 5,000 quilts. During this time he also worked as a Correctional Officer at the local jail.

On this property, Dan built his second Sweat Lodge and continued to study Native American traditions. It was in the Sweat Lodge that it came to him that he was Walks in Two Worlds. This vision is what compelled him to share the mystical stories, the meaning of the ceremonies, and other Native American history. It is Dan's desire for more of us to understand and learn from the American Indians who worked together, helped each other, and respected the Earth and everything on it.

Currently Dan and his wife travel the United States in an R.V. working part time at Kampgrounds Of America. They have visited many historical locations including San Creek Massacre and Ft. Bent near La Junta, Colorado. Their plans are to visit national parks, national monuments, and many other historical places.
